To the editor:
I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Tim Hahn, Relay for Life coordinator, and the multitude of volunteers, businesses, organizations and surrounding communities that helped make the 2003 relay a tremendous success. This year Cape Girardeau and Jackson combined their efforts along with many volunteers from surrounding towns. This resulted in an event that not only was successful in the amount of money raised for the American Cancer Society, but in showing support for cancer survivors and their families.
While there may be friendly rivalries between Cape and Jackson, this event showcased what cooperation between these communities and the surrounding area can do. It was personally encouraging and uplifting to see the number of people who took time from their busy schedules to help make this event the best ever. This newspaper ran an excellent article, and one of the local radio stations participated during the relay. Countless businesses and organizations gave of their time and resources. Hundreds of residents in the surrounding area made it a memorable and successful event.
On behalf of the over 90 survivors in attendance and many others who could not make the event, thank you so much. I hope to see all of you at Relay for Life 2004.
WAYNE C. PRESSLEY
