To the editor:

Since Sept. 11, most people have been in a heightened state of worry. Safety issues, economic woes and concerns for the future of their children have consumed the thoughts of many Americans.

Besides increasing worry, I have also seen evidence of an increase in prayer during this time. However, from my perspective, prayer is still an unpopular pastime in America. We are willing to put up signs and magnets imploring in some cases, but almost demanding in others, that God bless America." But are we willing to daily seek his forgiveness and humbly request his guidance and wisdom through personal prayer? I am excited about the patriotic spirit that has been reawakened in our country, but I long for a resurgence of genuine prayer.

If you are a mom, I invite you to get serious about prayer for your children of all ages. Moms in Touch International is a Christian ministry that focuses on prayer for children and schools. MITI can help you learn to pray as Jesus did, pray more consistently, and trust God with the needs of your children. We meet together in groups representing individual schools, elementary through college. We sometimes laugh. We sometimes cry. We always pray. Are you worried about the needs of your children today and their uncertain future? I encourage you to stop worrying and start praying. Please contact me for more information about Moms in Touch. Whether you contact me or not, I urge you to begin today to faithfully and specifically pray for your children.
