Cape Girardeau Mayor Harry Rediger wrote about this weekend's Heritage Days in his Mayor's Comments column in Monday's Southeast Missourian, including the LST Memorial 325 that's docked at the riverfront, the B-17 Flying Fortress at the airport, the kickoff concert that's at 6:30 p.m. Friday at Old St. Vincent's Church, and the local attractions that are open for tours.

We'd like to draw your attention to some of the specific events that will be taking place in conjunction with Heritage Days.

Saturday's events:

  • 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Tea in the Glenn House carriage house (must pre-register)
  • 11 a.m.: John Hatten, from the LST Memorial 325, speaks at the Cape River Heritage Museum (free hot dogs at noon)
  • Noon: Plein-air painter Bill O'Donnell speaks at Crisp Museum (costs $10)
  • 1:30 to 4 p.m.: Old Lorimier Cemetary tours
  • 1 to 2 p.m.: Fireman's demonstration at the Cape River Heritage Museum with children's music and games following
  • 2 p.m.: LST Memoiral 325 Master Chief Engineer John Tallent speaks at Crisp Museum
  • 3 p.m.: Dennis Stroughmatt performance at the Red House Interpretive Center
  • 5 p.m.: Presentation on architect JB Legg at Heritage Hall with reception to follow

Sunday's events:

  • 11 a.m.: Period worship service with music by the Front Porch Players at Fort D Historic Site
  • 1 to 2 p.m.: Fireman's demonstration at the Cape River Heritage Museum with children's music and games following
  • 1 to 3 p.m.: Flag House tours at 740 North Street
  • 2 p.m.: Civil War presentation by Gregory Wolk at Crisp Museum
  • 2 to 4 p.m.: Living history at Fairmont Cemetery with full military honors at 2:30 p.m. for the U.S. Colored Troops of Cape Girardeau
