Habitat for Humanity is more than just a program to build homes. It builds lives through compassion and sweat equity.
The local chapter has been organized a dozen years and will dedicate its fifth house on July 1. Families are chosen to occupy the houses on the basis of income, past work history, credit history and stability. They must also put 350 hours of sweat equity into building the home before taking possession.
A fourth home was dedicated just two weeks ago, after three years of Saturdays and weeknight work. Owner Ronnie Wright says it is more than a home. It was a motivator. He started his own small business, and his wife went back to school. The Wrights and their four children are happily settled into their new home.
Habitat for Humanity continues to be a real success story in our community.
