Re-enactors celebrated the 150th year of the Civil War on July Fourth by giving demonstrations and talks about the Civil War at Fort D. Soldiers frequently fired rifles and a cannon after explanations of the procedure. Numerous displays were seen around the fort. This free event was attended by more than 400 individuals with people living as far away as the country of Poland.
Thank you to re-enactors and those attending for making this July Fourth event a success.
The next free Civil War event will be held on Labor Day (Monday), Sept. 2, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Plan on attending and enjoying Cape Girardeau's history come alive.
