A few weeks into the fall semester, Southeast Missouri State University will hold its annual Family Weekend over the next few days.

This is a time for students to reconnect with their families and enjoy some fun festivities. Southeast has a full lineup of events to consider. Here are a few:

* The women's volleyball team will face Eastern Illinois at 6:30 p.m. in Houck Field House. The university has coined this "Houck FILLED House" with the goal of being the most highly attended single game for the program. Admission is free for Southeast students, $5 for adults and $3 for those ages 3 to 18.

* Later Friday night Iron Man 3 will be showing at Cape West 14 Theatre. Sponsored by the Student Activities Council, parents can join their students for free with a valid Southeast ID. Doors open at 11:30 p.m.

* There are many fun things to learn about Cape Girardeau. Tours will be offered, starting at the University Center, at 10 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. Saturday. Those interested can sign up at the University Center's information desk on the third floor.

* The Redhawks football team will face UT Martin at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tailgating begins at 4 p.m. in front of Houck Stadium. Students receive free admission to the game, and others can purchase tickets online at gosoutheast.com or by calling 651-2113.

* One of Cape Girardeau's great features is access to the river. The "Day on the River" will feature several fun activities for the family. There's no cost, and activities will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

If you enjoy art, check out the Crisp Museum at the River Campus. And at 10:30 a.m. Saturday the university will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its Creative Labs Incubator at 612 and 616 Broadway.

There's no shortage of university events or other fun things to do in this area, and we hope parents and students also take time to visit this weekend.

Have a fun and safe weekend.
