To the editor:
I was relieved to read in your Aug. 23 edition that the Jackson Board of Aldermen and members of the Jackson Underground Dodgeball League has finally reached what is, I hope, a compromise for the playing of future dodgeball events. From what I've observed, many members of the JUDL are promising future leaders in our community. Tim Nicolai, Josh Tomlin, Brett Price, Katie Jenkins and Kelly McLendon, just to name a few, are all outstanding young people who we want to stay in Jackson, where they will work, volunteer, worship and lead.
I base my observation on the privilege I have had for 25 years. During this time, I have taught at Jackson High School. I know each of the above personally. They were students who contributed and led the Student Council, Drama Club, National Honor Society, Speech Team and in the classroom. They ranked at the top of their graduating classes. We want these young people to stay in Jackson and contribute their talents and skills to our community. Let's embrace, accommodate and encourage our future leaders, not antagonize them. So, board of aldermen, Shane Anderson and Mayor Paul Sander, thank you for your spirit of cooperation.
CHRISTINE WARREN, Jackson High School Faculty, Jackson
