CSIS

Last week 30 Southeast Missouri State University students headed to Washington, D.C., as part of the five-day seminar at the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

The students attending were nominated during the fall semester by their college dean or the Office of the President. Each college within the university as well as each regional campus was represented on the trip.

CSIS is a strategic think tank with scholars and board members who have extensive knowledge on critical global issues. Southeast Missouri State University is one of only four institutions in the country chosen to partner in the CSIS student seminars.

In addition to participating in various debates and seminars on a wide range of issues, the students had an opportunity to tour some of the historic sites in our nation's capital -- something everyone should do -- and visit with congressional staff members.

Those who would like to hear more about CSIS will have an opportunity to do so when James Lewis, director and senior fellow of the Technology and Public Policy Program at CSIS, will give a lecture on campus at 7:30 p.m. April 5 in Glenn Auditorium at Dempster Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Congratulations to the Southeast students who were selected to participate in the CSIS program. Gaining a wide range of experiences is something every high school and college student should seek. Each opportunity taken is a building block that will further enrich your future.
