It's not uncommon for editorials in this space to recognize groups like the Red Cross or faith-based organizations that strive to help those in need. But it's especially exciting to see these types of groups coordinate efforts to make the most difference in disaster-struck communities. That's exactly what's been happening in Morehouse, Mo., recently.

Glen and Martha Harmon of Puxico, Mo., have been part of an effort to make sure those hardest hit by the recent flooding have enough to eat. As Glen drives down streets in Morehouse calling out that hot meals are available, his wife Martha fills Styrofoam containers with much appreciated food by those in the area.

During this recent disaster, the Red Cross has bought the ingredients for the meals while the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief organization prepares them.

In addition to the cooking of meals at Morehouse's First Baptist Church by eight willing cooks, about 20 people have been staying in a shelter inside the church's activities center. Southern Baptist Disaster Relief has also brought in a trailer where the displaced individuals can shower.

Thank you those in Morehouse and across the area who have selflessly given to help those in need. And if you would like to support the Red Cross 2011 flood relief efforts, visit www.semoredcross.org.
