Another summer in Cape Girardeau brings another annual Parks and Rec Day, with all its accompanying fun and food, and it's all free. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department will hold this fan-favorite event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at the Osage Centre.
If previous years are any indication, this will be an event you don't want to miss. It's a chance to promote activities for children -- to encourage them to be active and involved. Dancing, bounce houses, Nerf wars, craft-making and petting zoos are just some of the things for people to engage in. They will also learn about health and the important role Cape parks play in the community. And the good time is not just for kids; adults have been spotted having as good a time as the little ones.
The fun doesn't end when Parks and Rec Day is over, either. Those among the first 100 to visit the Parks and Recreation booth during the event will receive a voucher for a child to get in to Cape Splash for free when accompanied by a paying adult. With summer heating up, a day in the water can be what the doctor ordered, so take advantage of this generosity.
We're all about wholesome fun for the whole family, and this is sure to provide that. And lest we fail to mention what just might be the best part of the entire day, after hours of ripping and roaring, everyone needs a big old helping of ice cream. They can get that there, too. Food and fun: You can't beat that for the price of admission -- which, again, is free!
