As chair of the Cape Girardeau Walk to End Alzheimer's, I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who made the event a success. This community came together in a wave of purple to show its support for those affected by Alzheimer's disease.
The Alzheimer's Association's Walk to End Alzheimer's is the largest platform for awareness, education, advocacy and fundraising. Nationwide, the walk has mobilized millions to join the fight against Alzheimer's, raising more than $394 million for the cause.
This year, nearly 500 Cape Girardeau walkers joined in a movement to fight back, honor those affected by the disease and, ultimately, to end Alzheimer's. I am proud to share that the Cape Girardeau walk raised over $75,000 toward research, programs and services.
Having lost my father to this disease, it is reassuring to see my community support a cause that is taking away our loved ones. I couldn't be more proud of this community and its efforts. Together we are making a difference. The end of Alzheimer's starts with us.
