CAPAHAS APPRECIATE COMMUNITY SUPPORT

The Kohlfield Capahas baseball team is one of the oldest traditions in Cape Girardeau. More than that, the Capahas, which played its first game in 1894, may well be the oldest baseball team in the nation.

Not only does the team have tradition, it has a winning record. Tonight the team is set to play in the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan. The team is such a regular contender in this event that it has its own cheerleading section of loyal Kansas who have rallied around each year.

But Cape Girardeans are rallying around too. The team needs urgent financial support to meet the expenses of traveling to Wichita, staying in motels, meals and other incidentals. So far, nearly $2,000 has been pledged to the team, along with the use of two vehicles to get to and from Wichita donated by McDowell Ford of Perryville.

This support is greatly appreciated by the team. If the team does well in games today and Sunday, they will return for the wrapup games next week. This will mean additional funding needs.
