To the editor: As a former resident who misses Cape Girardeau, I was encouraged to hear that the Old Town Cape organization was formed to revitalize downtown Cape Girardeau. The study's recommendations were on target, but I could have made the same suggestions for a lot less than $80,000...

As a former resident who misses Cape Girardeau, I was encouraged to hear that the Old Town Cape organization was formed to revitalize downtown Cape Girardeau.

The study's recommendations were on target, but I could have made the same suggestions for a lot less than $80,000.

If Cape Girardeau wants to improve the looks of its downtown, it should start with Broadway between Pacific and the river. Main and Spanish Streets are looking better, but Broadway looks like a ghost town and needs many improvements like buried power lines, better sidewalks, improved building facades and a tangible plan for the Marquette Hotel.
