I am appalled but not at all shocked at the resistance to Larry Rice and his ideas for the federal building on Broadway. Cape Girardeau residents -- which include Bible-thumpers and political figureheads -- need to grow up.
We can have new liquor licenses issued, but we can't help the homeless or use the river as a means to create new jobs and growth for the area. We can't put some sins over other sins and choose what we like because our city council doesn't like it.
Larry Rice, my suggestion to you is to try to get the public to ask for a vote. We should have the right to vote if we want to fund a casino on the river and have a nice casino and hotel on Water Street in the future to create jobs and aid our struggling economy. Good luck to you, sir, and may God bless us all.
ROBERT ANDRE GLASPER, Cape Girardeau
