Though the graduation ceremonies are over, dozens of area students are still basking in the limelight of their achievements. And rightly so.

Stories in the Southeast Missourian last week highlighted the hard work and determination of students who earned top honors at their high schools and received college scholarships and awards of excellence.

Their families are proud, but so are we. These are students who aimed high and reached their goal. And they aren't finished yet. The area's 35 valedictorians and salutatorians intend to continue their education and become leading citizens in the community. Many hope for careers in medicine, law, engineering, or even serving in the armed forces as commissioned officers.

But it wasn't just students at the top of their class who received awards. Another list of honors and achievements showcased students who earned rankings on dean's lists, were accepted into specialty degree programs at their university or were selected to attend Boys State or Girls State.

Last week's Class of 2morrow newspaper section was proof that area students are clearly on the right track. We wish them well as they aim to succeed in higher education and in life.
