While there are plenty of stories about young individuals misbehaving, it's nice to hear stories of children making a difference in their communities. Two Southeast Missouri children recently made a difference for the local FISH food pantry.

Samantha and William Gardner recently visited the Southeast Missouri FISH pantry. The children, who had raised more than $100 by selling vegetables and lemonade over the summer, met with FISH volunteers to present the donation to the organization. The FISH volunteers promptly escorted the children and their mother to a local store to purchase items for the pantry with the donated funds. Upon returning to the pantry, the children stocked the shelves themselves.

While the children certainly did a wonderful thing in raising funds for a great organization that benefits many in Southeast Missouri, their mother is also deserving of thanks. Instead of allowing her children to keep all the money for themselves, she encouraged her children to get into the habit of giving to those less fortunate.

These are especially difficult times for organizations such as FISH. Support of local organizations that minister to those in need is especially appreciated. Hats off to Samantha, William and their mother, Jennifer. You all are a great example for all of Southeast Missouri.
