  • Derek Gaines, a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, received a Cargill Community Scholarship from FFA to attend Southeast Missouri State University. He also received a scholarship from Scott County Women in Agriculture.
  • Derek Menz, a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School, and Chelsey Menz, a graduate of Scott City High School, received a scholarship from the Cape Girardeau Firemen's Fund. Derek plans to attend Jefferson College and Chelsey plans to attend the Cape Girardeau Career and Technology Center.

HONORS

  • Blake Wade was named Kelly Student of the Year at the Sikeston Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 2319 annual banquet May 8.
  • Diana Gross, fifth-grade teacher; Susan LaPierre, fourth-grade teacher; and Jane Haines, second-grade teacher, received the recognition of Model/Master Classroom from Renaissance Learning. They teach at Oak Ridge Elementary.
  • Grant Eudy, Nina Scheibe and Julie Langenfeld of Cape Girardeau; Rachel Finney, Courtney Rodman and Benjamin Schloss of Jackson; and Mia Pohlman of Perryville, Mo., will participate in the Missouri Scholars Academy from June 8 to 28 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. The academy is for the top 0.5 percent of Missouri students academically. Students will take classes and learn about the "responsibilities as academically gifted members of society."
