People around town have celebrated Veterans Day with activities starting today, but more are planned for Tuesday, the day dedicated to the men and women who serve and have served the United States of America. For more events, check the Southeast Missourian on Monday and Tuesday.

  • Raising the flags, Cape Girardeau. The VFW will raise the flags at Cape County Park at 7 a.m.
  • Salute to veterans, Jackson. Ceremony at 9 a.m. at Jackson High School, followed by a reception at 10 a.m. in the cafeteria.
  • Laying the wreath, Cape Girardeau. The Cape Girardeau VFW, along with other veterans organizations, will lay a wreath at Freedom Corner (intersection of Broadway and West End Boulevard) at 11 a.m.
  • Veterans Day parade, Jackson: Begins at 4 p.m. in front of Jackson High School, winds through Uptown Jackson to the Courthouse, and loops back to the high school. Includes Girl Scouts and Brownies, Daughters of the American Revolution, VFW, American Legion, antique cars and tractors, Marine Corp League, and bands from Jackson High School, Delta High School and the Oak Ridge Band.
  • Veterans Day ceremony, Jackson. Immediately following the Veterans Day parade in Jackson, a ceremony will be held at New McKendree United Methodist Church. The service will feature patriotic music and a talk from veteran Bill Adams.
  • Veterans Day parade, Anna, Ill: Begins at 2 p.m. at the city park entrance on Davie Street, follows Main Street to Jefferson Street, then back to the park.
