Stovall, Miller, Kitchen, Gerlach and Rust are seniors at Cape Girardeau Central High School. Stovall is the daughter of Mark and Jane Stovall. Miller is the daughter of Gary and Michelle Miller. Kitchen is the daughter of Carol Kitchen of Cape Girardeau and Randy Kitchen of Jackson. Gerlach is the daughter of Darris and Tina Gerlach. Rust is the daughter of Tennie Rust of Cape Girardeau and Michael Rust of Cape Girardeau. Davis, Simmons and Laurentius are seniors at Jackson High School. Davis is the son of Dean and Linda Davis of Chaffee, Mo., and Bob and Peggy Sherrill of Jackson. Simmons is the son of John and Shirley Simmons. Laurentius is the son of Gary and Dru Laurentius. Jansen, a senior at Leopold High School, is the daughter of Norman and JoEllen Jansen. Eftink, a senior at Kelly High School, is the daughter of Dan and Lisa Eftink. Dambach, a senior at Kelly High School, is the son of Jerry and Lori Dambach. Rayfield, a senior at Scott City High School, is the son of Kenny and Mary Rayfield. McCoy, a senior at Kelly High School, is the daughter of Gary McCoy. Payne, a senior at Scott City High School, is the daughter of Oral and Lynn Payne. Moore, a senior at Oran High School, is the son of David and Michelle Moore.
  • Jordan Voss of Cape Girardeau, Megan Chapman of Oran, Mo., and Royce Bohnert of Altenburg, Mo., have been awarded Regents' scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University. Voss, a senior at Notre Dame Regional High School, is the son of John and Janice Voss. Chapman, a senior at Oran High School, is the daughter of Lori and Keith Chapman. Bohnert is home schooled. He is the son of Matthew and Sara Bohnert.
  • Kara Vangilder of Cape Girardeau and Rachel Burnett of Benton, Mo., have been awarded Missouri Leadership awards and Missouri Assessment Program scholarships to attend Southeast Missouri State University. Vangilder is a senior at Jackson High School. She is the daughter of Clay and Julie Vangilder. Burnett, a senior at Kelly High School, is the daughter of Robert and Monica Burnett.

  • Meredith Toole of Cape Girardeau and Paul S. Sander of Jackson have been named to the 2006 fall semester dean's list at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

  • The Nell Holcomb School District will hold a kindergarten screening and enrollment March 29 at the school. Parents must present immunization records, birth certificates and Social Security cards to enroll their children. Children must be 5 years of age before Aug. 1 to attend kindergarten this fall. All immunizations must be up to date before children will be permitted to attend class.
  • Kelly Elementary School at Benton, Mo., will hold a kindergarten meeting and school tour starting at 6:30 p.m. March 6 in the elementary school gym. The meeting will include a bus ride, lunch room snack, a supply list and kindergarten information. Parents will schedule appointments for kindergarten screenings before the meeting. Kindergarten screening and enrollment will be March 19 and 20 in the elementary school library. Parents need to attend the March 6 meeting to sign up for a screening time or call 545-3541 after the meeting. Parents need to bring certified copies of their children's birth certificates, their children's Social Security numbers and up-to-date immunization records.
  • Fifteen Cape Christian School students competed in the Christian Cooperating School District Speech and Word competition held at Christian Outreach School in Hillsboro, Mo. Winners included Noah Mejean, third place in first-grade Bible; Kaylee Taylor, second place in second-grade Bible; John Paul Goodman, second place in third-grade poetry; Lydia Taylor, first place in third-grade Bible; Reo Peda, second place in fourth-grade poetry; Duncan Campbell, first place in fifth-grade declamation; Cassidy Shelton, first place in fifth-grade monologue; Matthew Parsons, third place in sixth-grade expressive reading; Tatiana Reagan, third-place in sixth-grade Bible; Joshua Sander, first place in sixth-grade declamation; Hunter Shantz, second place in seventh-grade expressive reading; Danny Comeau, third place in eighth-grade monologue; and Trace Janota and Spencer Lovig, second place in eighth-grade dialogue. Cape Christian School received the Per Capita Award for the junior high division. The award is given to the school that has the highest percentage of participating students place in the competition. These students, along with Gabriel Ellinghouse, first grade; and Sarah Stroup, fifth grade, received first-place ribbons in a schoolwide competition prior to competing in St. Louis.
