  • Laura Eftink of Gordonville graduated cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in nursing. She received the Lamb Award, which is given to a graduate who best exemplifies knowledgeable caring. Eftink is a 2003 graduate of Jackson High School and the daughter of Ronnie and Patti Eftink.

ACHIEVEMENTS

  • BJ Tanksley, a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, has been named the director of the Missouri Legislative Service at the Missouri Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
  • Amy Buehrle of Cape Girardeau, was placed on the dean's list at the Oklahoma City University School of Law. Buehrle is a graduate of Notre Dame Regional High School and Oklahoma State University. She is the daughter of Donna and Tony Buehrle.
  • Ben Douglass, a student of Eagle Ridge Christian School, was named a Commended Student in the 2008 National Merit Scholarship Program. He is the son of Ann Douglass.

Central High marching band takes first place

The Marching Tigers of Cape Girardeau Central High School won the Drums at Appletime marching band competition Sept. 15 in Murphysboro, Ill. In addition to receiving the highest score, the band received best percussion, best visual and best music captions at the contest, said band director Josh LaMar.

Southeast university to hold Family Weekend

  • Activities during Southeast Missouri State University's Family Weekend this Saturday and Sunday include a 5K run, free wellness screenings, a luncheon, a basketball tournament at the Student Recreation Center, and a tailgate party before the football game against Eastern Illinois University on Saturday. On Sunday, a brunch will be offered and a free preview of the University Symphony series presented.
  • The Student Honor Council of Southeast will hold an open house from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Honors House at 902 College Hill. Proceeds from a dunking booth will be donated to the Judevine Autism Center.
