  • STEP 1: Fill the transparent container three-fourths of the way with water.
  • STEP 2: Observe the carrot, radish, celery, tomato, squash and bell pepper. Which are considered fruits and which are considered vegetables? Why?
  • STEP 3: Drop the fruits and vegetables into the transparent container with water. Which float and which do not float? Why?

Explanation

Leaves, stems and roots are considered vegetables, while a fruit is the part of the plant containing the seed. Those fruits and vegetables less dense than water will float, while those more dense than water will sink.
