  • Knee Replacement Surgery: Is It Right for You?: 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Learn about the latest advances in knee replacement surgery. To register, call 332-1587.

Thursday

  • Stroke screening: 8 to 11 a.m. in the Harrison Room at Southeast Missouri Hospital. During this screening, family history and blood pressure will be evaluated, carotid ultrasounds will be conducted and lipid profile screenings (a cholesterol check that shows levels of LDL, HDL and triglycerides) will be available. There is a cost. Brief presentations on strokes will be at 9 and 10 a.m.
  • Memorial service: 6:30 p.m. at Saint Francis Medical Center Chapel. Memorial service for those who have lost a loved one within the last six months.   • Breast-feeding support group: 10 to 11 a.m. at Saint Francis Family BirthPlace. Designed to help the mother with breast-feeding.   • Breast-feeding class: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Saint Francis Medical Center. A class for expecting parents (in their eighth or ninth month) who want to breast-feed. Topics are breast physiology, milk production, positioning, diet, pumping and storing breast milk. Call 877-231-2229 to register.

Nov. 4

  • Preparation for childbirth class: 5:30 to 9 p.m. at the Saint Francis Medical Center. Attend this comprehensive guide to expected bodily changes, labor signs and stages, pain control techniques and basic infant care. Tips on relaxing, positioning and breathing will also be discussed. Refreshments will be provided. Bring the "Pregnancy, Childbirth and Parenting Kit" provided by your physician's office. Free. Call 877-231-2229 to register.
