RCP HAVE THEIR OWN OSCARS......THE ABBOTTS.....
This is a very exciting week for River City Players. We will be having the Abbott Awards on Saturday, January 14. You ask what is an Abbott? For an easy explanation the Abbotts are RCP's Oscars! There have been trophies ordered and engraved with the catagories that RCP recognizes at the end of each season. The name Abbott came from Ann Abbott who started community theatre here back in the 70's. Ann has since passed but we honor her each year by having the Abbott Awards. Catagories that are recognized are as follows: Actor in a lead role, actress in a lead role, actor best supporting role, actress best supporting role, best co-director, best director, best show, unsung hero, and the Presidents Award. Each director of each show makes their nominations at the end of their show and turn those nominations into the Board of Directors. At the end of the season the board votes by secret ballot and those ballots are given to the secretary of RCP. She is responsible for counting the votes and keeping the results under lock and key until the Awards Evening. This is a very exciting time for everyone that was involved in the 2011 season. This years theme is Live on the Red Carpet (a black tie affair). This years attendees will be walkinng the red carpet and be interviewed by the master of cermonies asking such questions as to who are they wearing, what show they participated in and many more things that you often hear asked at red carpet events. Keep watch on this blog and in the SEmissourian for a list of the winners. May I say that my excitement of the event keeps growig. To all of my theatre friends and patrons that supported us this past season I say thank you!!
