WHO DAT? (part 9)
In this series of WHO DAT? (part 9) will be the last. It feels funny me writting about the Director of "The Crazy Time" since that is me the one that does the blog for River City Players. But I thought you might be interested in my experience and time that I have been involved with RCP. Debbie Barnhouse became involved in 1999 when she read an AD in the seMissourian that auditions were being held for a court room drama "Night of January 16." She was cast and Debbie was hooked. She participated in many shows and did her last acting in "Sleeping in a Murphy's Bed." She decided she wanted to direct the shows instead of acting in them. It is a by-law of RCP that you must be an assistant director before you can be a director. She was the A.D. for "Driving Miss Daisy" in 2001 which gave her the go ahead to direct during the next season. Debbie didn't direct her first show until 2003 "A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody." She was hooked again but this time on directing. In 2007 RCP wanted to do "Driving Miss Daisy" again and Debbie wanted to direct it this time. Other shows that she has directed are "When the Reaper Calls", Getting Sara Married" and now "The Crazy Time." Directing is such a challenge says Barnhouse because you are in charge of all the characters not just one like when you are acting. She enjoys the challenges and all the things that go with pulling off a great performance. She is also the President of RCP and has been retired from teaching ten years. This last show of the 2010 season opens on November 5 and will run the 6,11,12,and 13. The November 11 date is the show only with the other dates being Dinner Shows. For reservations call Port Cape at 334-0954. You will have a night of enjoyment.
