Thank You Michael Vick
Yes, that is correct. I owe a special message of thanks to Michael Vick. You see, if that silly S.O.B. had not been responsible for turning the spotlight on the plight of the American Pit Bull Terrier, we would not be seeing legislature introduced at the federal level like HR2492, introduced by US Representative Tom Marino, PA-10 and US Representative Betty Sutton, OH-13.
HR2492 would make it a FEDERAL offense to attend a dog fight. It also imposes additional penalties for taking a minor to such "events". I have quoted Michael Vick on more than one occasion relating how he was taken to dog fights at the age of seven. I have speculated more than once on what would have been if he had been exposed to dog obedience instead. I guess that excuse will no longer be valid if sanity begins to rule our legislators.
It is now time for all dog fanciers, rescuers and anyone that cares about supporting legislation that addresses the worst offenders, instead of their first victims, the dogs. If you do not know who your US Representatives and Senators are, go to your state website. All the information, including their contact phone numbers and emails are readily available. If you need help, I would be more than happy to provide that information for you.
Speaking of groups that are spending huge sums of money on legislative issues, how about the Humane Society of the United States taking the $93,000 they plan to use to once again manipulate the State of Missouri's governing body and use it instead to help pass legislation that can actually save animals? Just a thought!
