PHS students earn pizza party for positive behavior

The Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program at Perryville High School rewards students for being outstanding students citizens. Assistant Principal Joel Roth said that the PBS team recently offered an incentive to reduce discipline referrals at the school.

"In October and November last year, we averaged nearly 9 discipline referrals per day," he explained. "We challenged our students to help us reduce those referrals and if they did so, we'd have a pizza party. They reduced those referrals -- which can include tardies, using cell phones during class, etc. -- by almost half to just 5 per day. We were really impressed by the way the students increased their awareness of and responsibility for being on time, being respectful and following the rules."
