Saxony Drama is known for spicing up their cast, from their first musical performance of South Pacific (2008) where their "nuns" included the mayor of Perryville, to this year's performance of The Wizard of Oz, which will feature 31 grade-school children from seven area schools (Nell Holcomb, UCLS, St. Paul-Jackson, Altenburg Public, Trinity-Cape, Perryville Elementary, and Immanuel-Perryville) and one home-schooled student as Munchkins. Director Tammy Petzoldt expects record turnout for this show which combines spectacular costuming and effects with a widely known story. Seasoned Saxony High School juniors and seniors make up the lead cast of characters including Dorothy (Jacquelyn Kiefner), Scarecrow (Ben Spiecker), Tin Man (Elwood Voss), Cowardly Lion (Landon Petzoldt), Glinda the Good Witch (Sarah Willis), and the Wicked Witch of the West (Danielle Childers). "Toto" is played by a dog named Little Bear. A full cast of more than 60 plus a live pit orchestra, lead by Saxony's Music Department Director, Tyson Wunderlich, will put on three shows at the Perry Park Center Theatre in Perryville starting Friday, April 12 at 7 p.m. The two shows on Saturday, April 13, are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at Saxony (204-7555) and at the door.
