I have been reading with interest the letters to the editor regarding Southeast Missouri State University's action on demolishing an older home to make way for a parking lot. I applaud the university's action and see it as being financially responsible.

We have a wonderful restoration in the Glenn House accomplished through donated funds, and there are many restored homes that are privately owned. I applaud these efforts. However, restoration is an expensive undertaking. Check with the historical society regarding the money poured into the Glenn House, and it still needs work.

In order for the university to accomplish this, it would mean the university would need to (1) raise fees for students and parents, which many would complain about, or (2) raise taxes, which there would be complaints about.

I would suggest that those who are criticizing the university go together, pool their finances, purchase the home, restore it and give us another interesting site to tour.
