Among the many organizations that make the holiday season brighter for hundreds of area residents is the Salvation Army. At Christmas time, the Salvation Army will help more than 800 families with food, clothing and gifts. But just as important is the Salvation Army's year-around assistance efforts, because needs arise every month of the year, not just at the holidays.
A major financial source that helps the Salvation Army do its good deeds is the annual "Tree of Lights' fund-raising campaign. Donations that are put into kettles at area retailers during the Christmas shopping season go toward the "Tree of Lights" goal of $150,000. Many donations are also made directly to the Salvation Army, either at its offices or by mail.
Generous donors have always played an important role in the Salvation Army continuing benevolence in the community. Now would be a good time to help out. Send a donation to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 802, Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63702-0802. Or drop by the Salvation Army building at 701 Good Hope. Thanks for the help.
