This week the newspaper wrapped up its All-Southeast Missourian teams for the 2012-2013 school year.
Over the year we recognized 114 athletes representing 19 schools. There were three boys teams, four girls teams and two combined teams.
It's always impressive reading about the athletes. Many in this area excel in athletics, and invariably there are many other athletes also deserving of recognition. So to be included in these teams is an honor, and we congratulate each student athlete for the recognition.

Sports teach us important lessons. Teamwork, diligence, work ethic, passion -- and the list goes on. While success in the classroom should be the priority, it's good to see well-rounded students. These young people often have many activities going on beyond sports and school, and time management is a critical component.
The calendar has turned to August and school will be starting in just a couple of weeks for many students. This means more athletic contests, and we look forward to reading about the next crop of stars.
Congratulations to all the athletes.
