Southeast Missouri State University's Homecoming is just the start of community activities that will keep Cape Girardeau rocking this weekend.
The third annual City of Roses Music Festival will bring the talents of nearly 80 bands together for music fans. There will be something for everyone, from rock 'n roll to folk, from rhythm and blues to country, from Christian rock to bluegrass.
Entertainment kicked off Friday and resumes at noon today at the River Campus. As the day progresses, bands will perform at numerous locations in downtown Cape Girardeau.
Wristbands cost just $10 for admission to all Music Festival events today. Organizers deserve a real pat on the back for the largest and most diverse music festival yet. It is becoming a real draw for the City of Roses.
As if Homecoming and the Music Festival weren't enough, the city is bustling with several other events this weekend.
-- More than 100 skydivers are expected to participate today and tomorrow in a skydiving festival at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
-- Black Forest Village Octoberfest will feature craft, food and music today and Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m.
-- The SEMO Gun and Knife Show typically draws a large crowd. It will be held at the A.C. Brase Arena today and Sunday.
-- The Mississippi Queen will dock this morning at the riverfront.
-- Also at the riverfront is the Nina, a replica of Christopher Columbus' favorite ship. Tours are available from 9 a.m.to 7 p.m. each day.
This is one of those weekends that nobody will be able to complain there's nothing to do. In fact, the weekend's agenda may provide some tough choices among top-notch entertainment.
