On the behalf of the Red Star Neighborhood Revival, I have had the opportunity to be in the heart of the Cape Girardeau chicken ordinance debate. This debate allowed me to listen to both sides of the argument and learn about the benefits and the negatives of owning chickens. These conversations also brought about something the city of Cape needs to be proud of: good-natured conversation and debate. Ultimately, my side of the argument was defeated; however, I noticed a greater topic within all of my conversations -- revitalization.
In a world where technology is encouraging us to keep our heads buried in social media, the exciting opportunities that have arisen in historic Cape Girardeau should keep everyone looking up and looking toward the future. The chicken ordinance has spurred the interest of many people who otherwise wouldn't care about municipal ordinances. I hope this civic conversation has encouraged everyone to learn how they can make a difference, and engage in civil conversation. Overall, we are all working toward the common goal of a better community and a better future for Cape Girardeau.
The Red Star neighborhood is working harder than ever to make a difference. We are actively working with city departments, landlords, homeowners and other stakeholders to improve the lives of our residents. We know that with a revitalized downtown the Red Star neighborhood has an opportunity to shine. The Red Star Revival is underway and we are excited to be a part of the revitalization conversation.
