Dear Editor:
Obvious to most Americans is the fact that we need a "change" in our government. In the following letter I would like to appeal to America's youth, to veterans, and to families who have lost loved ones in defense of our country.
In the last presidential debate, Governor Clinton said "If I had it to do over again, I honestly do not know rather or not I would go to Vietnam because I was against the war." He continued ~by saying "I would not have trouble sending men to war if the need should arise if I am president."
My question is, "Since when do honorable Americans have to "agree" with a war to fight for their country"? How many thousands of Americans have lost their lives defending our country not because they agreed with the war, but because they believed it was their responsibility and, duty as an American. I think it would be a "disgrace" to those who have died for our country to elect a president who wouldn't fight for it when his turn came. I think the parents of the boys who lost their lives in Vietnam should unite against such an outrageous candidate, who believes his absence in Vietnam was justified.
How can we ignore his disloyalty to America? How can we respect and trust a man to lead our nation if he himself won't fight for it?
If Bill Clinton becomes president, and you or your son disagree with the next war, will he give you a deferral? I don't thin~k so.
I agree the economy is the big issue of this election, but I believe commitment and courage to fight for America should be a minimum basic requirement for anyone to be eligible ~to become President of the United States.
Thank God that every man that ever disagreed with a war didn't decide to go to another country as Governor Clinton did. Where would America be today?
I urge you to consider voting for a man who "has" defended our country and will continue to fight for the people as president of the United States. His outstanding record in the financial world as well as his outspoken sincerity and concrete pr~~oposals has convinced me that he is the hope Americans need for the future. His name is Ross Perot.
