To the Editor:

As a minister of the Gospel for over 60 years, coming to Cape Girardeau in August of 1938 and pastoring here for 15 years and living here for 38 years of the past 54 years, I am greatly concerned of the moral and spiritual welfare of the city.

The Boyd Group of Las Vegas is only concerned as to money, money, money. Yet money will only buy things, but never peace, happiness or solid salvation. They care not what effects riverboat gambling will have on our city. They say only 8 percent of the gamblers will come from our city. Shall 8 percent rule our city? Hannibal, Mo., voted "no" on riverboat gambling. Do we think less of our city than Hannibal?

The Bible tells us, "The love of money is the root of all evil." Yet no man has ever taken one penny with him into eternity.

Remember, of the 5 billion people living on the Earth today, 95 percent will be in eternity before 70 years ... then what?

We urge every person that is concerned in the wonderful city of Cape to vote "no" on June 8.

The Rev. C.E. Fleshman
