To the Editor:
This week marks Newspaper In Education week. This prompts me, as a candidate for the Meadow Heights School Board, to comment about the importance of reading in our children's education. Our society, as a whole, has gotten away from the importance of reading. It is easy for all of us to turn on the television and watch the news; instead of reading about the current events. We are fortunate to live in an era that we can actually see history happen! Even though this is a great invention, we must continue to stress the importance of the written word in our children's education.
We are privileged to have several newspapers available in our area. Newspapers have been an important part of communication and can serve as an important tool in education. Reading will give our children a "window on all worlds" and take them to places they may never travel to. We must always strive to keeping reading an important part of education.
