To the Editor:
I would first like to take the opportunity to thank you for the coverage of my report to the Chamber membership. Your article discussed SOME of the key issues which are "fueling the fires" for health care reform. While those issues are all national in scope, the reality of health care reform is going to affect each of us in a very personal and very real way. I closed my presentation with a "warning against complacency" with a clarion call for participation in the health care reform process.
A reformed health care system will affect everyone. There are those argue that the system can be improved. There are those who argue that the system can provide more services at less cost. There are those who argue that the taxpayers are willing to pay more for those unfortunate individuals who are unwilling or unable to pay for their own health care services. The arguments are many, and the debate is good.
Communication, education and participation are the key tools which we have to use. Talk to your elected representatives, learn about the issues and participate in the reform process. Don't be complacent! Be involved and help shape the health care system that you think is best for this country.
