To the editor:
On Monday, April 26 the Southeast Missourian ran an article on the new Cape Girardeau police cars which inaccurately stated the date on which the city was founded and inaccurately stated the date on which the Missouri flag was designed in Cape Girardeau.
On Tuesday, April 27, the Southeast Missourian published a "correction" which was again erroneous.
The Missouri flag was designed by Marie Watkins Oliver in November and December 1908 and January 1909 and was first presented to the General Assembly for adoption in 1909. The flag was adopted as the Missouri State Flag in March 1913. Since the flag was actually designed in Cape Girardeau, the facts with respect to its design and adoption should be accurately carried.
Sincerely
John L. Oliver Jr.
Cape Girardeau
