To the editor:

In December you ran an article about two homeless puppies found by Candis Ward and her children. The puppies were fostered after being picked up by Tammi Craig from Gunner's Run Rescue in Ruma, Ill. The pups are named Faith and Frost and have been adopted through the Monroe County Humane Society in Illinois. The puppies were spayed and neutered and are doing well in their new homes.

The reason for this letter is to thank Candis and her children for their compassion and help in rescuing the pups and giving them a start to a better life. Thanks also to Dogwood Veterinary Hospital for formula to feed the puppies, Tammi Craig and the Monroe County Humane Society for their assistance and the foster parent who helped from Monroe County.

There are a lot of homeless animals in local shelters. If you are looking for unconditional love, please check your shelters for a wonderful, furry friend. Adopt one if possible. O maybe you could foster a furry friend when shelters don't have room. Animals give unconditional love. They do not judge and ask very little in return: food, water, shelter, exercise and love. Spend a little time with a furry friend and it will change your life for the better. It has been said that petting an animal can lower your blood pressure and make you live longer.

Thanks again for helping to give these puppies a chance to have a life at a trying time of the year. It was the season of giving, and you all gave from the heart. God bless you.
