Terry Taylor is resigning from the Cape Girardeau Board of Education. His job has been relocated to Arizona.
He has served the district well since earning the most votes in a four-way race in April 1995. The former Booster Club president ran on a pledge of restoring trust and credibility to the district.
Although the road was bumpy, the board and new administration have done just that since 1995. Shortly after Taylor was elected, three board members resigned. The Cape Girardeau County Commission filled the three seats. In December 1995, the board fired the superintendent and his assistant.
Slowly, but surely, the Board of Education has rebuilt trust and confidence in the district. Its success was evident in passage of the $14 million bond issue and tax-rollback waiver this past April.
Throughout the district's challenges of the last two years, Terry Taylor endured with grace. He accomplished what he pledged to do.
Thanks, Terry, and good luck.
