Cape Girardeau saw another poorly attended Planning and Zoning Commission meeting Wednesday night at City Hall.

This time, it was a public hearing on the city's Major Street Plan and Future Land Use Plan.

Not terribly exciting, but important all the same.

The first plan outlines the city's street system according to use basically, whether each street is a main traffic artery or merely a feeder to an artery.

And the second plan tips off residents to how property could be zoned in the future. If they want to build a home, for example, they could check to see whether any property near theirs could become commercial in the future.

Of course, only few people spoke.

But be assured, future meetings will be well attended -- if an unpopular zoning proposal develops.

Then it might be too late.
