FOR THE SENIOR citizen who called about being cold and lonely. Please call Area Agency on Aging, 335-3331 or 1-800-392-9771. Thank you.
ON THE DAY AFTER the election, I've been perusing the papers and listening to the news reports on radio and television, and I'd just like to say to the proponents of Proposition B that you still don't get it. As a person who voted no, I have been told I am too stupid to understand the technical language in the ballot. I have been told in the newspapers that we think that educators are doing a good job; therefore, they don't need any money. They simply don't get it. A lot of people who are taxpayers, who are voting for or against these measures, were educated under the Kennedy administration with hard-nosed math, hard-nosed science, and, yes, athletics. But we were educated with less and we were educated well. We can see where the problem is now. So do a little bit of studying before you present us with such a ridiculous proposition next time.
I AM REALLY concerned about the senior citizen who said they felt alone and cold and nobody cares. I know, and I can understand that there are a lot of people out there who are lonely; a lot of people who would love to have a telephone companion, someone to talk to. If some way they could let Speak Out know who they are, there are lots of people who care, and I'm just one of them. I'm a Christian. I can feel the warmth of God's love, and I just hope this person can too. If they can't, maybe I can say something to them to make them feel God's love and the warmth of it. I know, when your feet are cold, when you have to put newspapers on your walls, it's hard to feel God's love, but it is there just the same. For some reason I got the paper and looked at Speak Out from yesterday, and it really touched my heart. I'd love to be able to help this person in some way. Would you please contact Speak Out. It touched the heart of my 36-year-old daughter and my 68-year-old friend.
WOULD THE PERSON who's lonely and with cold feet and freezing to death please be a little more specific about their location? I'll keep reading the newspaper and be happy to do all I can for them. Get more specific about your location, please, I'd like to help you.
SO, DO YOU think the politicians are starting to get the message that maybe we do not want any new taxes at all? They have enough money to spend already. If they can't budget with what they have, then we need new people, not more taxes. Thank you.
I WOULD LIKE to address this to the lonely senior citizen who lives out in no-man's land, whose comments appear in the Nov. 5 edition of Speak Out. Although we are newcomers to Cape, it is evident to my wife and me that this is a caring and compassionate community. I'm sure that there are many people who would be more than willing to help you with any problems you might have, if they just knew how to contact you. Please call 339-1367 in the evening and talk to us. Please call today.
I THINK THAT the HUD program is being abused. They have all these young mothers living in these houses paying no more than $10 or $11 to live there, and they cannot keep their electricity on for their kids. The HUD contract states that if you get your lights turned off, you have to have those lights turned on within five days or you will be terminated from the program. I know people who have had their lights turned off for months. I think these people should be kicked off this program, and people who deserve it be put on.
I'D LIKE TO respond to the elderly citizen who lives cold and alone with no one that seems to care. If she lives this way, it must be her own choice. I too am poor, handicapped, and live alone, but I stay warm. I have plenty to eat and neighbors that care, and I'm never alone because I have my heavenly father that watches over me and keeps his hand in mine. We have Division of Aging and other organizations that will help you, besides a lot of good people. Thank you.
THE BOLLINGER COUNTY sheriff's department deserves credit for the arrest of the rapist, the way I see it. Following him to Mississippi and tracking him there deserves the credit. I didn't hear much out of the sheriff here in Cape County. Why not report it like it is?
THANK YOU TO the voters of Missouri. They played us for fools on the lottery vote, but not on the Big B. There is no such thing in my book as a blank check. Ten years from now the taxes would still be there but not for education. Again, thank you.
I JUST WANTED to say that we had better start saving our water now because, if the city of Cape runs the water system anything like they run the trash system or anything else they've gotten a hold of, we'll be out of water within a couple of months.
TO THE HOMELESS senior citizen whose letter appeared on Nov. 5, please call in again and give your location so that someone can help you. Thank you.
TO THE SENIOR citizen that said they would rather die than freeze to death and feel so unwanted, if they would put their phone number and name in the paper along with that, I'd be glad to talk to them. Thank you.
I'M CALLING IN reference to the call you had from the senior citizen who feels unloved and unwanted and needs someone to give her a home or just be her friend. If she would let us know who she is, maybe by putting her name and phone number in the newspaper, maybe someone out there, myself included, would try to help her and be a friend and do whatever we can for her. I don't think anyone should be cold and without a friend. Thank you.
I RUN A business out of my home, and it really irks me when a customer will make an appointment and then not keep it. Even though we have businesses in our homes, we do not sit and wait for your call. We have other customers who appreciate us being there for them also. So instead of being rude, next time keep your appointment or call ahead and cancel out. Thank you.
I WAS DISAPPOINTED that the Missourian refused to run an advertisement in opposition to Proposition B on Monday, Nov. 4. The reason given was that it was a policy of the paper not to run negative ads on the day before a vote. Two large ads in support of Proposition B were run on that date. It seems to me that the editor has taken it upon himself to define what is negative on this issue. From my viewpoint, an ad in support of Proposition B is negative. This is not fair reporting.
Our reason for not publishing ads in opposition to Proposition B, or any other measure, for that matter, on the day preceding an election is that proponents would not have sufficient time to respond to opposing views, if they wished to do so. Our written policy, which we put into effect four years ago, came about as a result of an incident of negative advertising on an issue being published just prior to a Tuesday election. We think our policy is a fair one. By the way, don't confuse advertising with reporting. Advertisers pay us to say what they want to say; reporting is the objective presentation of news in stories.
SHUT UP ABOUT the stupid trash pickup. I'm sick of hearing about it. Get a life.
I THINK "DESIGNING Women's" program on Clarence Thomas hit the nail right on the head. I for one will not be voting for Jack Danforth. Thank you.
