I WOULD LIKE to publicly thank the three special fellows from the fire department and one from the police department who helped me when I needed help. They're the greatest.

BECAUSE OF THE pushiness and stupidity of some women in this country everybody is changing our English grammar. Any educated person knows that when one is referring to anybody in general, man or woman, the correct word to use is either he, him, or his; not he, she, him, her, his or hers. It is understood that when one is speaking in general terms the correct usage is the masculine. I will not change my correct English grammar in order to accommodate them. Thank you.

I DO NOT intend to vote for Proposition B. We have been told so many untruths over the years about money and funding for education. We have been deceived, and I am not at all sure that Proposition B would be run according to the way they say it will. So, when in doubt, just don't vote for it. Thank you.

WHEN WILL OUR legislators learn that their constituents are not a bunch of morons who blindly accept the sophomoric meanderings of a sloppily put-together thing such as Proposition B. I am outraged that these elected officials who are supposed to represent us, the people, expect us to vote for a huge increase in taxes without specifying how that tax money is to be spent. Whose school will benefit? Yours, mine, or Kansas City's? What specifically will this tax money be spent for? What educational accomplishment and standard for each student will be achieved? Proposition B certainly does not spell out any of these things. I will not vote for it.

I FOR ONE WOULD vote for David Duke for president of the United States. He couldn't be any worse than what we've got now. Thank you.

DID YOU KNOW that Arkansas spends more money per person on education than we do in Missouri? Give me a break. That's depressing. That's a good enough reason right there to vote yes for Proposition B.

DID I MISS Mr. Bush's outburst about Congress being a privileged class when he first became president or did this just happen since the confirmation hearings? I don't think Mr. Bush is worried about the American people at all; he's just playing politics. Thank you.

I SAW IN the Southeast Missourian where the university in Cape Girardeau had a big voter registration drive so the students could vote for Proposition B. I wonder how many of them are going to be permanent residents in Missouri and be paying that tax all those years. Probably a very small percentage of them. Thank you.

IF SEN. DANFORTH would work as hard for the state of Missouri, as he was elected to do, as he has worked for Clarence Thomas we would be in great shape. But no, Missouri has gone down in everything: jobs, education, and so on. I will not vote for him in the next election. Isn't there a qualified woman out there who would run? I sure hope so. Thank you.

PLEASE VOTE YES for Proposition B on Nov. 5. Our children's and our grandchildren's education should be our No. 1 priority. Thank you.

I SIMPLY CANNOT believe that the city of Cape Girardeau would build a one-lane bridge across Juden Creek out by Twin Trees Park. This used to be a scenic drive until this bridge was closed for years. For the city to put a one-lane bridge in its place is ludicrous. They're talking right now about having $600,000 surplus from the tourism fund and wanting people's ideas on how to spend it. Why they did not put a two-lane bridge over this creek I do not understand. It appears city government is getting as bad as the federal government about throwing taxpayers' money away. A one-lane bridge in this day and time. Wake up, city. Thank you.

THE PRO-ABORTION person called in wanting to know if pro-life people are doing anything to help children. I think they are doing all they can by trying to stop the killing of pre-born babies and by Birthright organizations all over the country to help both mother and baby. And about helping all the groups of children she mentioned: Yes, we are trying to help them, too, first and most importantly with prayer and donations. We are trying to spread the message that if we each hold ourselves responsible for our actions we will not have unwanted pregnancies and we will not have as many children dying from hunger and lack of prenatal care, and by trying to make a better society where everyone can understand that we are truly moral creatures and our lives can be much happier if we hold on to the values that should be instilled in us. I might ask if the caller has done anything to help these children or does she just spread the pro-abortion logic that babies should be killed when not wanted? I'm sure I was not wanted at one time when I acted like a jerk, but I'm very thankful my mother did not kill me.

I'M CALLING IN to say I'll probably vote against the city buying the water plant here for one big reason: it would be operated by the same people that take care of the trash pickup. We find out how much the citizens' rights are. They continue to make us pay full price for half the pickup. I'm not too sure it wouldn't work that way with the water. We might pay a double water bill and they'd cut us back on how much water we could use. It's not so much the issue whether we buy or not; it's the people who would operate it that I'm concerned with. Thank you.

I SEE SEMO University President Stroup on TV begging people to vote for Proposition B. According to her thinking, that bill will magically straighten out all education problems in the state. I suppose in 10 years, if the money goes into the general fund, they will be back with another proposition for more money. I think the way they propose to spend the money is just another boondoggle. Cut administrative salaries and you ought to be able to adjust some of that money. They are too high anyway. I thank you.

SURE MARY KASTEN supports Proposition B. On the income her family has she can afford it. Let her try doing it on a fixed income like some of us other people do.

IF YOU CARE about the future of Missouri or, if you have kids or grandkids in this state, you had better be voting yes on Proposition B.

I SEE PETER Kinder is still blasting off about the fiasco in Congress last week, but people in Speak Out can't mention it. Thank you.

We decided against publishing any more calls concerning Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas simply because so many were received that they were too numerous to print. As it was, almost all of three consecutive Speak Out columns were dedicated to the issue, and we think a fair sampling of opinions was published. If you wish to respond to Kinder's column through Speak Out or a letter to the editor, we will be happy to publish your views.

EARLIER THIS YEAR I supported our senior citizens request for a new senior citizens center. Now I'm asking them to support my efforts and everyone's efforts to ensure our children a quality education. Vote yes on Proposition B. Let's educate our children; that way they can be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Thank you.

IT APPEARS THAT Peter Kinder and the other ultra-right fascists have realized finally that they no longer have communists to kick around so now they've started on feminists. How about that.
