I WANT to comment about the Real Republicans. I want to talk about the Real Democrats. People are seeing now who's in favor of enslaving their children to a heavy debt and heavy taxes. What party is in favor of it? You've heard all your life that every war we've ever had has been under a Democrat. Who's wanting to send boys over to Yugoslavia and who's not? These people will send your sons, but they won't go themselves. They expect to receive something from the government, but they want you to pay a big tax.
MY TOPIC is radio stations. The radio stations in this town don't play anything that my generation grew up with. I'm 37 and I've listened to music since 1964. They don't play anything worth listening to, and I'm getting sick of it. They only play from the late '60s to the '80s. I didn't grow up in the '80s, I grew up in the '60s and '70s. I'd like to hear a radio station be able to play that music and also take requests.
HOW IS the government going to save any money and what good is it doing to shut the government down if they're going to go ahead and pay the employees that they have sent home? It's just a big, phony ripoff, I think.
IF I'M not mistaken, the university hired Dr. Atchley to be president, and they hired the professors to teach. I say to the Senate, let Atchley do his job and you do yours. Stay out of his business and he'll more than likely stay out yours.
I READ that some members of Congress gave up their pay during the shutdown. Wouldn't it be nice and wouldn't it restore faith in the Congress if they would all do that?
I LOVE fall weather and the aroma of burning leaves. I always open the windows when I smell leaves burning. I just enjoy it so much.
I WAS just reading about the person who said that the Democrats wouldn't give the Republican president a line-item veto and the Republicans wouldn't give a Democratic president a line-item veto. I think they ought to check again. The Republicans tried to get the line-item veto passed even with a Democratic president, and the Democrats were still against it.
HOW ABOUT them Republicans? They won the Louisiana governor's race in a landslide. This is the first time in over 100 years there's been a Republican governor. The Democrats did win in Kentucky but razor thin and by the lowest majority they ever had. I just hope the Democrats will run Clinton, because then we will take the veto-proof Senate and more House seats and Dole will be president. Clinton is the best thing the Republicans have going for them. As soon as he starts sending these boys over to Yugoslavia to fight in that religious war, the public will be real happy about that too.
PRAISE THE Lord and thank you, Republican members of Congress for getting our flip-flop president to agree on a balanced budget in seven years. You have truly made this a real Thanksgiving for the whole country, especially for our future children and grandchildren.
IF THE self-incriminated liberal feminist, Perry O'Farrell, wants to write a column, she should include all the facts. The EEOC's investigation and subsequent recommendation that men be hired is very misleading. The EEOC starts with recommendations. It soon turns into mandates. And I think she should know that the EEOC wants Hooters to give millions of dollars in scholarship funds for these poor gentlemen. And also put millions of dollars into sensitivity training for their employees.
I WISH someone would have music on the radio that older people would enjoy. We are not all cowboys. There are so many good songs that are collecting dusts on the shelves of the radio stations. Have a happy holiday.
SINCE WHEN is a malpractice suit headline news? I was shocked at Saturday's paper. In this sue-crazed society today, I'm sure many doctors in Cape Girardeau have been sued, and they weren't headline news. I know Dr. Tobin, and he is a good person and takes good care of his patients. I'm surprised the Southeast Missourian was so biased it didn't tell the other side of the story. I'm sure Dr. Tobin has views on that subject.
I WOULD like to say, as a person who always tried and expected to earn my salary and someone who has always stayed within the limits of my budget, non-essential employees means deadbeats to me. I don't wish for my tax dollars to go for their salaries.
