I JUST wanted to say thank you to the owners of the theaters at the West Park Mall who have the courage to show "To Wong Foo" at their theaters. I moved my family here from a major city where everything's tolerated and accepted. Movie fortitude

I JUST wanted to say thank you to the owners of the theaters at the West Park Mall who have the courage to show "To Wong Foo" at their theaters. I moved my family here from a major city where everything's tolerated and accepted. It's really nice to see someone around here is willing to buck the religious stranglehold and show a movie that actually depicts gay people as having real thoughts and feelings. I'd rather have my gay friends back home watch my children than any of my straight friends. That's how strongly I feel about what kind of decent, kind, caring people they are.

Police chase

I WOULD like to speak out regarding the automobile accident in which those guys who were being pursued by the Scott City police officer hit that woman on I-55. It isn't the Scott City police officer's fault that those men hit that woman. Those men had the opportunity to stop when they saw the lights in their rearview mirror. They didn't have to keep going. The Scott City police officer wasn't driving their car. Let's stop blaming the people who are in the right. Let's start blaming the criminals. That would be the men who hit her, not the officer who was simply trying to stop them.

Defending renters

I WOULD like to say thank you Councilman Eggimann for his defense of renters in Cape Girardeau. As a renter for over 20 years, I take care of my property probably as well or better than homeowners. I appreciate it. I was offended by some of the statements at the council meeting. I appreciate Mr. Eggimann standing up for us. Furthermore, I hope this project does move and we get a good school in that area.

Dangerous street

WE'VE JUST We've just witnessed another accident at the bottom of Hopper Road, the second one in a matter of so many days. The city needs to put up guard rails, take the curb out, cut the hill down, put up warning signs or something so that people who aren't familiar with the area would have safer driving. That is a dangerous area. We've seen literally dozens of accidents, some that weren't even reported to the police.

Council comedian

I WAS watching the cable access channel coverage of the city council meeting. I just have one thing to say. Comedy does live. Just watch Butch Eggimann at a city council meeting.

Property values

I'M CALLING about the article about the housing problem with the people up around Sylvan Lane. I can understand their point, because whether the houses are sold or rented, it is going to bring their property values down. There are many other places in town. It doesn't have to be right there. The biggest problem about Cape housing is it's not affordable. This is basically a minimum-wage area. There's too much high-income housing and not enough high-income jobs for people to buy them. We do need more housing that is geared more toward the minimum-wage area.

Armchair quarterback

I'VE BEEN a Southeast Missouri State University football fan for over 30 years. I don't see them winning a football game this year if they don't make a change at quarterback.

More on housing

AL SPRADLING said it would be presumptuous of the council to try to keep the Sprigg Street housing out. It's pure snobbery, almost laughable and certainly presumptuous for David Crowe to say new schools would be hurt by rental property. What makes him or anyone else in the Sylvan Lane area think they are better than people who might rent or even buy a home for less than $100,000? Their priorities are confused, to put it kindly.
