Proud of Shumate, team

HEARTBREAK game. SEMO lost to MSU. As I see it doesn't matter, It's as the referees see it or not see it. A big factor in a close game. I'm proud of coach Shumate and the SEMO Indian team effort, and every fan shared your loss. You know the song: Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and start all over again. Come on, SEMO Indians, it's the reason for the basketball season, and your fans will be cheering you on. You can do it. Win on the road.

Avoid strip bar

IF YOU don't like the idea of a strip bar, then just simply stay away from it. But don't try and ruin it for those of us who think it might actually be enjoyment.

Reagan and Hill

WITH REGARD to the Anita Hill speech sponsored by the college: Can I assume that the same liberal professors who went ballistic when Ronald Reagan visited Cape Girardeau during his presidential campaign will now uphold their professional and intellectual integrity and similarly oppose the political appearance by Anita Hill? I would assume that their opposition would be consistent. Right?

Democrats still here

TO SOUTHEAST Missouri Republicans: I just want to remind you that all of the state's Democrats in Congress were re-elected. In this area they pretty well think that it's Republican. We Democrats are still here, and I think there are more Democrats in Missouri than Republicans. Don't feel too confident.

Politics as usual

PARDON ME, but did the federal government not just increase our taxes last year? And now after the November election they're talking about a tax cut for the middle class. If I remember right, Bill Clinton promised not to raise taxes on the middle class, and he turned right around and did that very thing. Now the following year he wants to give them a tax cut. If people will just stop and think, this is really not a tax cut that we will be getting if we get it, because they just raised the taxes last year. Politics as usual.

A father first

WHAT NEWT needs is a good old letter like Harry Truman sent Washington Post critic Hume. If I were Bill Clinton I would ask him to repeat it to me. If you recall what Harry Truman said to Hume, he would need a nose guard and a jock strap when he got through with him, because Harry Truman said he was a father before he was president, just like Bill Clinton was a husband and father before he was president. If it were reversed, I think I would put my family first and old Hume would need the process that Harry Truman said that Hume needed.

Announcer motivates

THIS IS in reference to the person who was complaining about the announcer at the University High Christmas Tournament. If you've ever played basketball -- and I'm speaking with experience of four years of high school basketball and two years of college basketball -- you'll know that any time you get an announcer who is motivated and did such an excellent job as the announcer there that that keeps our team and our boys and the players on their feet. I think the announcer did an excellent job.

Next-day mail

IF THEY deliver my mail any later, they're going to have to bring it the next day. Or do you thing that maybe that's what they are already doing?

Come clean, Hillary

Hillary Clinton wants to get these people together and find out how she can gain people's respect again. That's not all that hard to do. Why doesn't she just produce a list of who was involved in these health care meetings and let the taxpayers find out who was naughty and nice.

Sell stock now

I suppose many people are contacted at home by people selling stock. Everyone tells me to buy this stock, buy that stock. I've never had anyone call me and say, "Hey, that stock I sold you, it's a good time to sell, it might go down." I just wonder if anyone's had anyone call saying it's time to sell.

Columbia's strip joint

I SPENT a couple of days in Columbia this past weekend, and I went to a strip joint that had topless girls, and it was very clean, very polite and very nice.

Now you know me

DEAR Speak Out readers: I don't know about you, but I'm getting fatigued from having to say "to the person who wrote about such and such" or "to the person who said this and that." I think we can do it a little better. Since Speak Out is anonymous, let's have handles like CBs or on-line services do. I JUST READ how shocked one reader was in Speak Out at the Southeast Missourian's headlining Anita Hill's upcoming appearance at the college. Count me as one very happy to be informed and who hopes to attend.
