I WANT to comment on the performance by the Cape Central High School Jazz and Rock ensembles April 6. I'm a musician and have heard many different ensembles all over the country, but I have never heard such professional performance from a high school-level group. We have excellent music programs in place in our Cape public schools, and we should support them. Congratulations to Mark Ellison and all the fine young musicians you are teaching.
I'M CALLING about school board member Kathy Swan's remarks about Dr. Bob Fox. Does she feel it's OK for her to verbally abuse him and all he did was inform the public, the taxpayers and people who have children attending these schools of what was going on? Although she is on the board, I see no reason for the verbal abuse.
ALL RIGHT, Southeast Missourian, haven't you bashed the Cape school board and superintendent enough? In an era when schools need support from parents, teachers and the community, you stand there throwing stones. Do you have a personal grudge, a hidden agenda or what is your problem? Be a good citizen and support your schools.
I WOULD like to know if what the school board has done with extending Dr. Clark's contract is legal. Seems to me not all the board members knew there was going to be a vote, or otherwise Mr. Campbell wouldn't have left this early. It just proves again that the board's credibility is not worth crap. This community had better wake up and get its head out of the sand and get rid of them before they destroy our whole school system. Dr. Neyland Clark has got to go, and I hope our newly-elected board members when they get elected will have this as their first agenda: to get rid of him. There is no trust with the community or that board as it exists now. Davis and Thompson were just trying to make a big going-out party for themselves.
I SEE once again that the Cape school board has thrown it in the face of what the people want. The people did not want Clark's contract renewed, and they knew that. They knew the people coming in would vote against it. How can this board ever think that they're going to have any credibility if they keep pulling these ridiculous stunts?
ONCE AGAIN it seems that we have some division on our city council. It seems Eggimann and Gateley seem to always take the opposite side of whatever it is that's going on. And that's OK if they're representing the people, but after a while you begin to wonder if they're representing the people at all or just their own special interest. It seems to me that the city council needs to remember that they represent the entire city, not their wards. We need them to make decisions based on the entire city.
MRS. SWAN seems to have used the wrong words regarding Mrs. Fox, Mrs. Wright and Mrs. Trickey being teachers in the school district. Instead of "coincidental" the word should be "ironic." I am sure, like most spouses, these three teachers talk to their husbands. They are relating the feelings of parents, students and other teachers. Most of these feelings are negative. Most everyone is just plain fed up. I think it is wonderful that Mr. Fox, Mr. Wright and Mr. Trickey are listening to the what the public has to say. Coincidentally, neither Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Swan nor Mrs. Ruopp are teachers in the district. How ironic.
FOR YEARS my neighbor up the street has been revving and roaring his motorcycles in the driveway for hours at a time. He has awakened my children from naps and myself working night shift countless times. I have never complained to him about this. Now he has the audacity to complain when I let my small dog go out to the bathroom for five minutes at a time. He should be ashamed of himself. Neighbors should try to get along, not cause trouble.
I HAVE never heard such a nasty or vicious attack on anybody as there was made by the retired military officer against Hillary and Chelsea Clinton. My Army officer husband always told me that the first concern of a good officer was for his troops. How would you like this person looking out for your son or daughter? God forbid.
I WOULD like to make a comment on how the news media is treating Bill Clinton different than the Republicans. If I remember, Clinton promised the world in 100 days, and it didn't get done.
THANKS TO the Southeast Missourian for bringing Jay Eastlick to the community. This journalist speaks God-given truths to a public that is bombarded with trash, lies and immorality from the Hollywood elite, Eastern press and left-wing universities. Ponder his words and apply them to your life. It may mean taking a stand on issues or refusing to patronize and support some of the movies, TV programs and publications that invade society.
JON KURKA Rust's eulogy to his grandmother brought tears to my eyes. Hopefully my own grandchildren feel the love, respect and reverence he has for this lovely lady.
I AM an atheist. You cannot prove to me otherwise. I have seen many arguments for and against. I tell you this, and I tell you this now. There is no God.
I CAN'T believe that Newt Gingrich wants to give a tax break to families with an income of $200,000. Clinton's suggestion of $95,000 is more realistic. Families earning $200,000 a year don't need a tax break. I'm beginning to think the Republicans are for the rich. They don't know what poor people are.
I GET extremely tired of these bozos calling Speak Out complaining that the Republicans don't care about the working person. The overwhelming majority of tax increases over the past 40 years have been sponsored by Democrats. Today, the average person works form January to the middle of May just to pay his taxes. Apparently, these callers don't read their pay stubs. The Democrats are largely responsible for taking 40 percent of the average workers' pay, yet these clowns still insist that the Democrats are the workers' friends. With friends like that, who needs enemies?
I WAS proud to see the UCLA team win, especially after I saw what they did after the game. They prayed, gave God the glory and thanked him. It wasn't necessarily for the team. Way to go, UCLA team. Madeline Murray O'Hare, put that in your pipe and smoke it.
IN THE April 5 paper there is an interesting article headlined, "Judge halts logging in Shawnee." It goes on to tell about this man who brought a lawsuit against the hardwood sales people that were logging out of this forest area. He goes on to state that he is a billboard painter and the one who is doing the suing. I find it very amusing that a man who paints billboards and clutters our beautiful highways and roads would have the audacity to bring a lawsuit against some environmental project such as logging.
IF OUR city can't complete Lexington, why not use our National Guard to do the job? Maybe we can get our street finished.
DETECTIVE LANGE was not only dutiful when he covered Nicole with the blanket from her house, he was gallant, decent and gentlemanly as well. Knowing, he didn't have a blanket of his own and no doubt figuring there may be hair and fiber on the non-sterile household blanket, he did it anyway. Good for Tom Lange. Was he supposed to just leave her poor, cold, dead, crumpled bloody remains sprawled on the ground for the whole wide world to see? Shame on this defense and defendant for this and countless other things. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the very embodiment of insult to injury.
THE PLANTING in front of our public library looks so unkept. I was wondering if there was a Girl Scout troop that would take over the plantings and maybe earn their merit badges that way.
