WE JUST read the Sports page for Sunday and the local year in review, it seems like every year the Capaha baseball team seems to be forgotten. You all have a very newsworthy team that is highly thought of, and they were state champions in a row. They're looked up to all over the country, it seems like, a lot more than they're recognized even here. Let's give some support to the Capahas. Come on, I think they're one of the top 10 stories for the city this year.
AS I reflectively think back on 1995, I can only think that Cape Girardeau is on a path of short destruction, short memories and fast tempers. I can only hope that when Cape Girardeau's demise finally happens that I'll be here to laugh at all of you hypocrites, all of you rednecks and all of you people who stood in the way of progress and fortune. I think back to the time of year-before-last's Christmas when every retailer in America was boasting about how it was the best Christmas they had had in years. Then I think back to this past Christmas where it was dismal and bleak and only had a four percent increase over last year's tremendous outstanding sales. Well, if you did better than last year, then wasn't this a peak Christmas season? And I think back to how everyone complains about how all of a sudden the Republicans aren't dealing with the president. Has everyone forgotten that the Republicans are giving the president exactly what he asked for two years ago when the Congress was headed up by a bunch of cheap Democrats? One day, when everybody's mind actually kicks in and you actually start think for yourself, perhaps that will be your saving grace. Until then, I bid farewell and adieu. I certainly hope you people in Cape Girardeau know what adieu means.
I WOULD like to make a comment about the soldier who was injured by a land mine in Bosnia. This should be the first story. After all, all the conflict was over there when CNN was showing how these people are starving and stuff. This stuff needs to be on the front page, not on the second and third page. I guarantee you, as time goes by and more troops getting killed, these headlines are going to keep going farther back, farther back. When Whitewater kicks in, that's when the news media will jump in on Clinton, because they're the ones that's been supporting him. I'm surprised they keep supporting him this long.
WELL RUSH Limbaugh, you have a lot of your liberal listeners all shook up. They're too timid to call your show but will hide behind their phones and call Speak Out and complain. They have no agenda like their liberal Democrat party except to whine and complain to the conservatives. Keep it up, Rush. Mega-dittos. We know you're right.
THIS IS addressed to all of the parents who do not keep track of their children and do not know where they are when they step outside the house: We live in a neighborhood where the children are turned loose early in the morning and the parents never stick their nose out the front door or the back door to find out where they are. They're tearing up other people's property. Now this is addressed to the Police Department: I feel if the police department was to get a few calls about these children and start fining the parents, the parents would get up and get off their couches and quit watching football and see where their children are. We raised one. We're raising grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and we know where they are all the time. I feel if the parents would be fined and hit pretty hard in the pocketbooks a couple of times, they would know where their children are at.
IT'S NOT the Republicans who are extremist, as Democrat liberals under Clinton are trying erroneously to portray them. The Democrats are an extreme-left, liberal, socialistic party trying to practice communism's basic premise of redistributing the U.S.'s wealth by taxing the producers for the benefit of the non-producers. They believe that the government knows best and can better spend my money than I can. This is classic Marxism, which has been rejected elsewhere in the world but still is advocated here, especially by the academic and political elites. At election time, they act conservative, but when they get into office, they revert to their true nature: socialistic liberalism. After all, what American in his or her right mind would vote for socialism unless it's dressed up through the snow job put on by a whining bunch of Democrats who are truly liberal socialists?
WE WENT through the County Park twice over the holidays, and we thought the displays were really beautiful. We really enjoyed them. But some of the names of sponsors were hard to read. Perhaps they could write it larger or in black so it would be easier to read as you drive through.
I DON'T know about anybody else in Cape but I really kind hope that CBS will lose its college football contract the same as it lost its contract with major league football. I am fed up with five consecutive days of college football. Every year it gets worse and worse. It used to two days, and then it was three, and now we have football from Friday through Tuesday. I personally think it's ridiculous.
I AM a Republican, but I truly believe that every member of Congress who has laid these federal employees off should also do without their own salaries if they're going to force other government employees to do without theirs. In fact, nobody in the government should be paid until this thing is settled if they're going to withhold salaries for any of them.
