CAPE VOTERS, beware of tax proposals and taxes that are in place already. They will mean your take-home pay will be very small, which you have no control over. You need some things yourself, not all like they this as proposed by the city and school board. The tax will fall on taxpayers and the young too, a lot even in high school to come yet. Beware of tax plans

The younger people will pay for these burdens.

REPLY: The tax increase proposed by the school district is a property tax. Therefore, it would be paid by property owners. It would not show up as a paycheck deduction.

Paving reimbursements?

I SEE where the county is paving all the gravel roads free of charge. I just wonder if they're going to reimburse the people that paid money out of their own pocket to pave their roads. It only seems fair. I mean why give it to some people and not the other people?

REPLY: This sounds like a good topic to discuss in person with county commissioners.

School locations

I'M CALLING in regard to the school bond issue. I, for one, do not intend to vote for anything until I find where the new schools are located. Why is this being kept such a secret?

REPLY: It isn't a secret. The locations haven't yet been determined. When they are, which will be prior to the bond vote next April, the public will be fully informed.

Bigger directory type

THIS IS in regards to the small print of Southwestern Bell Telephone book. I have to agree with the caller that the print is entirely too small, and I think Southwestern Bell can do better than this. I wear glasses and have a very hard time in reading that small print. As big a company as Southwestern Bell is, this is a little bit ridiculous.

Other cable services

DON'T BLAME TCI for continuing to take away more of our channels and raising our rates also. As long as the city of Cape keeps agreeing with them, they will continue to do that. They keep saying they are going to do something, but when? Falcon at Sikeston has KPLR, which is a good St. Louis station that carries the ball games plus WGN and they aren't taking them away. What's wrong with Cape?

Try a magnifying glass

YOU PRINTED a comment in Speak Out about the telephone directory print being too small. The caller expressed that this is a crime. I would like to know what basis this caller thinks a crime is. That's one of the problems with America: hyperbole. We need to quit exaggerating minor things. They are not crimes or crises. About 700 years ago, they invented a fantastic device called a magnifying glass. It uses the optics of a convex lens to make the letters look a little bit larger.

Kelly coach a winner

I'D LIKE to congratulate Bill Davis from Kelly for being voted cross-country coach of the year for Missouri. He's in a second-year program, won the 1A-2A Division championship.

White House: No vacancy

WE OWN the White House. You and I and every other taxpaying American. We have the right to say who sleeps there and who doesn't, just as we do in our own homes. How dare the Clintons turn the White House, a public place, into a motel for money. It's disgusting, it's disgraceful, it's dishonorable.

I HAVE a tip for motorists when we have slippery roads. When you approach either your driveway to stop or a stop sign with automatic transmission, put your gear shift in neutral, and you will be surprised as to how much faster you will be able to stop and control your car.
