WHILE LOOKING up a lot of names in my new telephone directory, I became sick with a headache. Southwestern Bell, you should be ashamed to send out new books with print so fine that hardly anyone can see them, especially people who have to wear glasses or maybe even don't have any glasses. This is a crime and a shame to expect people to use this kind of directory when they can't see very well as it is. Southwestern Bell, you can do better than this.
I JUST called to say that someone took a Christmas tree I put on my father and mother's grave at Hobbs Chapel. If that person reads this, I want them to know I am not angry with them. My parents would be the first to say if they needed it, let them have it. Whoever you are, Merry Christmas and God bless you.
ON DEC. 5, I took my husband to a meeting at Southeast Missouri Hospital for learning how to cook and eat after bypass surgery, which he had two weeks ago. The meeting started at 5 p.m. and wasn't over until 7 p.m. My husband was tired, hungry and cold, and I didn't help when I accidentally locked my keys in my car. The shuttle bus driver and a nice couple parked next to me were so helpful, taking us to the lobby to call a locksmith. The couple even offered to drive us 20 miles to our home to get an extra key. I didn't get their names, but they were angels in disguise. My husband was cold and aggravated because it took longer than expected to get the car unlocked. I got my Christmas gift early there that evening when the man said not to worry, because he wasn't going to charge me under the circumstances. I don't know his name, but he was truly a angel in disguise, next to Dr. Ogle for saving my husband's life through bypass surgery. He gave one of the greatest gifts I'll ever receive this Christmas. God bless him for his generosity and thoughtfulness for not even charging for unlocking the car.
SHAME ON the Southeast Missourian and Speak Out. As a resident of Cape Girardeau, I am embarrassed for an insensitive paper and its editor, which published the racist remarks the caller made about Japanese cars and bombs. I wish to apologize for the Missourian to all my Japanese friends and acquaintances for the boorish practices of the Missourian and the caller. Shame, shame, shame.
I THINK that Cape Girardeau's downtown merchants should sponsor a Christmas walk like some of the surrounding towns have. They could put luminarias down the street and have stands where they could sell hot chocolate, coffee and hot apple cider. In the pavilion they could have Santa Claus, and all the kids could visit Santa Claus down there. I just thought that was a good idea.
