THIS IS in response to the person who called in about Trent Lott and Newt Gingrich having to work with President Bill Clinton but he doesn't have to work with them. Bill Clinton is not our king, and he is not our emperor or dictator. He's the president. It is the duty of our government to work together in the best interest of the people of our country. That includes the president.
A COMMENT about the new telephone directories: You may be trying to save the trees, but I'm trying to save my eyes. The print is so fine you can't read it without glasses. I would like to suggest that the next phone directory be made in giant print where the elderly can read it without having to pick up our glasses every time we want to look up a number.
THE CITY of Cape Girardeau politicians must think we in the suburbs and Illinois are stupid. You are ripping us off by charging us sales tax for something we will never use. You should be thankful some of shop in Cape. We want something in return for our money. So stop ripping us off.
I WANT to thank KFVS 12 for taking the controversial show, "Public Morals," off the air. It was definitely trash. I also want to thank them for "Promised Land," "Early Edition," "Dr. Quinn," "Touched by an Angel" and the new Cosby show. These are great programs. Keep them coming, and you will find your ratings above ABC and NBC by far. This is what the majority of American families want to see.
THIS IS to the person who thinks it's disgusting to blow your nose in a restaurant. I think it would pretty disgusting to see someone with mucus dripping out his nose while eating. Do you let your nose drip while you are eating? And also, when I'm allergic to someone's perfume, I may not always sneeze, but sometimes it does make my nose run. Have you ever thought you could be the cause of someone's nose dripping and then having to blow their nose?
IF TCI Cable, KFVS TV cannot make an agreement, I am going to drop TCI cable and not put up an antenna to reach KFVS, and I am going to buy a satellite and say the bleep with the both of them.
MY CALL is concerning the 14 home robberies that's happened in Cape Girardeau. According to the Southeast Missourian, the Cape Girardeau Police Department is concerned and a plan of action is being prepared. Well, that's fine. But my question is, what have they been doing the last six months and the last 14 robberies? It's a miracle no one has been seriously hurt or killed. This is not LA or New York City. It is unacceptable and outrageous that the citizens of Cape Girardeau are not safe in their own homes. My suggestion: Offer a much larger reward. Money talks.
I THINK I've been reading about cable dropping KFVS. I think would be disgusting. That is our local cable, and KFVS can do something about it. They have begun to put good movies on and good programs, and a lot of people watch channel 12. What about these old people who cannot afford cable? What are they going to do? They sit at home all day and do nothing but watch TV. That's all they can do. I think it's disgusting that we let something like this happen to our own cable. And for me, I prefer our own local station, the news and the weather and all the happenings and I think it's disgusting. KFVS, please do something.
I'D LIKE to comment on the police officers of Cape Girardeau. I was coming back from Cape one afternoon, going up north Kingshighway the first part of this week. A gentleman had a flat tire and I noticed a police officer out there changing the tire for him. I thought it was real nice of him.
WHAT A shame. Another elderly person victimized, robbed and hurt here in our fine little city. Something has got to be done. I do not expect the police department to be able to stop these occurrences as their duty is to apprehend criminals, not be security controls. But I do think that the police department, instead of holding safety seminars for the elderly and advising them to spend the money that they don't have on big doors and big locks, should encourage the deputation of private citizens. These citizens would be a group authorized by the police department to stay in these homes on a random basis, armed and ready to defend these helpless, elderly people. I think that if the word got out that this person could not at will kick in elderly people's doors, drag them out of bed, rob them, hurt them and get away with it, without facing some gunfire, we just might see a stop to this awful, awful occurrence in our town.
AS FAR as I'm concerned, they can take KFVS off the air as soon as possible. I hope TCI sticks to their guns. After all, what would we miss? Our local news channel is nothing more than a home, garden and cooking affair. Of seven minutes of news and the rest of medical updates and cooking and whatever, I would rather see an honest-to-goodness home channel take the place of that. Also, on the weekend, we might get to watch something other than "M*A*S*H" which has been on at least the last 15 years.
ACCORDING TO Bruce Aden's letter on "Case against abortion," if his definition of life is true, then fire is alive. If conception is the beginning of life, a fetus or embryo that has been frozen for 10 years can theoretically get a driver's license at age 6 because life began 10 years before the embryo was planted into the womb. Practically, this makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, and that's why at the beginning of the Bible God said he breathed life into man. Therefore, your life begins with your first breath. Otherwise, you're just a parasite. Look that up in the dictionary.
I HAVE a solution for these people breaking into the homes of the older people and taking their money. Give the older people a gun, and when somebody comes in with a ski mask, let them have right between the eyes. That's what I'm going to do.
